Lung volume is up to 50% greater in the upright position, for the same tidal volume of air, this means up to 5mm less lung movement as the patient breathes.
A significant reduction in breathing motion will improve treatment accuracy and reduce the need for lengthy and uncomfortable motion management techniques.
LESS ORGAN DRIFT MEANS MORE ACCURATE TREATMENT
Think about a day in the life of a cancer patient, from the moment they wake up to the moment they lie down for treatment they are in the upright orientation - seated or standing. Recent studies show that when the patient lies down their organs drift due to the change in direction of gravity.
Hospitals could ask all liver patients to lie down for 35 minutes before treatment, but we believe there is a better way. Treating liver patients in the upright position means they can be set-up quickly whilst preventing this slow organ drift during treatment.

Left-sided breast cancer patients treated lying on their back with Radiation Therapy are 38% more likely to develop secondary health conditions due to unnecessary toxicity delivered to the heart and lungs.
By leaning patients forward in an upright orientation patients receive the clinical benefits of prone with the ease of setup of supine positioning.
