A Story of Imagination and Courage
About the book
Written by Kate Yip, Therapeutic Radiographer and Clinical Engagement Manager at Leo Cancer Care, Toby’s Magic Chair tells the story of a young boy who transforms his radiotherapy treatment into exciting adventures through imagination. Inspired by treatment in Marie, the story is designed to help children feel more confident and at ease during their treatment journey.
A Message from the Author
I wrote this book because I didn’t want anyone to feel different or alone or scared about needing radiotherapy.
I wanted this book to be a place where a child could escape to.
A place that made treatment look and feel familiar and not something scary and new.
I wanted Toby to be someone they could relate to, someone they could see themselves in.
Toby teaches us that it is ok to be scared of new and unfamiliar environments. That bravery can be seen simply by turning up every day and that your imagination can do amazing things.
Please share this story with your team and with anyone who might need it to feel a little less scared or who wants to use Toby to help tell their own story to their friends and family.
