Upright Meets Adaptive: Leo Cancer Care and RaySearch To Elevate Precision Radiation Therapy

New collaboration integrates upright patient positioning with real-time adaptive planning to improve precision, efficiency, and patient experience. 

Leo Cancer Care, a pioneer in upright radiation therapy solutions, today announced an expanded partnership with RaySearch Laboratories to bring online adaptive radiation therapy (oART) capabilities to upright treatment workflows across its future technologies, including Grace and its particle therapy solution. 

Building on a shared vision to transform cancer care, the collaboration will integrate Leo Cancer Care’s upright patient positioning technology with RayStation® and RayCare®, enabling clinicians to adapt treatment plans in real time based on daily anatomical changes, while patients remain in a natural, seated position. 

Online adaptive radiation therapy represents a major step forward in precision oncology, allowing clinicians to treat with a plan based on the anatomy of the day rather than, in some cases, weeks old. By extending these capabilities to upright workflows, Leo Cancer Care and RaySearch aim to unlock new levels of accuracy, comfort, and clinical efficiencies. 

The integration will support: 

• Online plan adaptation using advanced imaging and AI-driven tools  

• Improved targeting accuracy through natural organ positioning in upright posture  

• Enhanced patient comfort and stability, particularly for lung and thoracic indications  

• Streamlined clinical workflows via seamless software-hardware integration

The fast automated replanning workflow in RayStation® will guide clinicians through tools for: 

• Automatic organ segmentation 

• Re-computation of the plan on the daily CT 

• Re-optimisation of the plan on the daily CT 

• Decision support for choosing to use the adapted or the original plan and transferring the plan seamlessly into RayCare®
