ASTRO is always one of the highlights of our year at Leo Cancer Care, but this year feels different. For the first time, we’re heading to ASTRO with clinical experience behind us.

In 2026, upright radiotherapy moved from something we had spent years researching, developing and preparing for, to a clinical reality. Patients have now been positioned, imaged and treated upright using our technology.

This year, we can talk not only about what upright radiotherapy could look like, but about what we are learning as it becomes part of real clinical practice.

From hypothetical to clinical

Introducing a new approach to radiotherapy inevitably comes with a learning curve. Going clinical has given us the opportunity to see years of development put into practice but it has also brought new questions, discoveries and practical challenges to explore.

What have we learned about workflow? What has surprised us? What have clinical teams experienced? What have patients experienced? What challenges have emerged, and what are we still working to understand?

These are the conversations we want to have at ASTRO.

Upright radiotherapy is entering a new phase, and in many ways, we are on that learning curve alongside the clinical and research community. That is what makes this year so exciting.

There’s plenty happening on the booth

Our booth will be a place for learning throughout ASTRO, with presentations bringing together clinicians, researchers, collaborators and technology partners from across the upright radiotherapy community.

Topics planned include integrating PET verification into upright particle therapy, preparing upright proton therapy for the clinic, and treating pediatric patients upright – including clinical experience, opportunities and ongoing research.
There are also activities planned with collaborators including Orfit and Chabner, giving visitors an opportunity to explore some of the wider developments taking place around upright radiotherapy.

And for the first time… we’re heading to ASRT

There is another first for us this year: Leo Cancer Care will also be attending the ASRT Radiation Therapy Conference.

We are particularly looking forward to spending time with radiation therapists, the people who will interact with our technology every day and who work directly with the patients we ultimately want it to benefit. A technology can perform brilliantly on paper, but it also has to work in the reality of a radiotherapy department. This is where radiation therapist insight and perspective is essential.

What is positioning like? How does it affect workflow? How easy is it to communicate with and support the patient? What works well? What could work better?

These are exactly the kinds of conversations we want to have.
